This Gond painting by Kailash Pradhan depicts a stylised peacock poised on a branching perch, its arched neck and fanned plumage forming a radiant, rhythmic composition that transforms the bird into a symbol of vitality, display, and natural harmony.
Originating in the tribal Gond community, which lives in close communion with nature, these paintings portray a strong belief that every aspect of nature is animate and sacred.
The peacock’s body curves in a graceful arc, suggesting alert movement and living presence. Its torso is divided into patterned zones rendered through fine lines, scalloped scales, and dotted textures that create tactile depth, while the wings unfold in saturated pinks and corals that contrast with the cool teal of the neck. The expansive tail radiates in layered bands of green, yellow, and orange, each feather articulated through repetitive Gond linework that conveys both plumage structure and decorative rhythm. The prominent circular eye animates the bird, reinforcing the Gond perception of animals as sentient beings.
The bird rests upon a stylised branch composed of segmented, patterned bands that echo the textures of the body, integrating avian and vegetal forms into a unified natural system. The perch stabilises the composition while situating the peacock within a living environment, suggesting the interdependence of fauna and flora.
This painting showcases three of Kailash Pradhan’s signature styles, the unique star-shaped pattern called “Cher Chera,” inspired by the Gond community’s Cherchera festival; the Parsa Paan pattern resembling betel leaves, offered as a symbol of respect at significant events and used in traditional medicine within the Gond tribe; and the Khaddar pattern inspired by the fibres of handspun Khadi cotton cloth.
Through its arched posture, radiant tail, and dense patterning, the peacock becomes both bird and living ornament—an embodiment of beauty, vitality, and the sacred animation of nature in Gond visual philosophy.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Returns and Replacements
We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.
Delivery Timeline
Ready To Ship/In Stock artworks are shipped in 3-4 days. We only accept return requests for Ready to Ship/In stock artworks placed within a week from date of delivery. However, no returns can be accepted for international deliveries.
Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
All MeMeraki artworks are hand-painted. In rare occasions, artist may face delays due to weather, health, prior commitments or force majeure. Our team will reach out to you with revised timelines in case of such delays. We appreciate your understanding and patience in such situations.
