This endearing Pichwai painting by Jayesh Sharma beautifully highlights the tender relationship between a cow and her calf, seamlessly merged with the iconic Kamal Talai theme of this textile tradition.

Pichwai is a traditional cloth-based painting from Nathdwara, Rajasthan, traditionally created to adorn the background of the sanctuary of Shrinathji (a seven-year-old child manifestation of Krishna) and is known for its intricate detailing and rich, vivid colors.

Both cows and lotuses hold a sacred position within Pichwai art, as they directly celebrate the pastoral legends of Lord Krishna's youth in the bountiful groves of Vrindavan and the serene waters of the Yamuna river.

The composition is cleverly arranged against a vibrant, sky-blue background that invokes a summery ambiance. Positioned in the center of the canvas, a white mother cow is depicted with her small calf, who is nestled closely above her. Both cattle are adorned for festive worship, featuring hooves highlighted in bright saffron, heavy golden rope collars adorned with dangling bells around their necks and traditional head ornaments.

The bright saffron handprints on the coats of both animals carry a deep religious symbolism, referencing the autumn festival of Gopashtami. On this auspicious day, the cattle are honored as symbols of maternal abundance, lovingly bathed, ornamented and marked with sacred paste as a gesture of gratitude and devotion, a way to mark Krishna's connection to the cows and symbolise his presence, highlighting his role as Gopala or protector of cows.

Above them, a large pink lotus blossom sprouts from a thick, curved green stem and is flanked by large, scalloped green lotus pads (kamal patra) featuring delicate line work for the veins. Graceful green stems loop and curl in fluid tendrils outward from this central cluster, reaching toward the corners of the canvas where smaller, blooming pink lotuses and delicate closed buds fill the surrounding space in a harmonious, balanced arrangement.

The entire pastoral scene is encased in a sophisticated border that frames the artwork and provides a formal finish. A thin, stark red line forms the inner border, separating the central green field from a wide yellow main band. This wide band features a continuous, undulating green vine adorned with small pink rosebuds and delicate green leaves. A final solid red frame bounds the entire piece, grounding the bright color palette and providing a clean, striking finish to the organic and highly detailed interior.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.

• The order contains more than two different product types.
