This wooden sculpture depicts Jesus Christ in a standing position. Crafted from Kumbla wood (Gmelina arborea), a lightweight yet durable medium traditionally sourced from the deciduous forests of Kerala, this piece reflects the rich South Indian heritage of temple woodcarving. Kumbla wood is revered for its smooth grain, allowing for the precise detailing required in sacred iconography.
Jesus Christ is shown standing on a rock pedestal, based on an oval-shaped block. He is standing with his extended open arms, suggesting welcome and blessings to his people. The facial expressions of Jesus are composed and meditative, with almond-shaped eyes, an elongated nose, fuller lips, with a moustache and slight beard. His hair is long, cascading up to his shoulders; he wears a long, flowing robe with a mantle covering his shoulders. Around his neck, he wears a sacred heart that depicts the sacrifice and compassion of Christ to his people.
His body is slender and stands tall, with proper proportions in crafting his body. There is a resemblance of balance and harmony in crafting his model. The rhythmic manner and the chiselled lines that are attained by the sculptor in making this model are remarkable. At the back of his head is a halo, depicting his divinity.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
