About the Artwork +

Dwarka Prasad paints Ram and Krishna's story in this Kavad painting. It contains tales of Lord Ram and Krishna on either side of the inner panels of the box. On the left side panels are illustrations of Krishna Leelas including the story of Vishnu's Narasimha Avatar or the Part-lion, Part-man Form to slay Hiranyakashipu, to end religious persecution and calamity on earth, thereby restoring dharma. On the right-side panels are illustrations of Ram Leela including the story of Lord Ram fighting evil forces to reunite with his beloved Mata Sita. There is also an illustration of Ram Darbar which is highly symbolic of the ideal, prosperous and progressive state for people's welfare with Ram-Sita on the central throne surrounded by Laxman and Hanuman and others at service symbolizing devotion, love and friendship.
