Refined artist Chetan Gangavane's Chitrakathi Painting, "A Glimpse of Ramayana," transports to a world where art becomes storytelling. This captivating art form hails from the Maharashtra-Karnataka region, where 'Chitra' (painting) and 'katha' (story) entwine seamlessly. Each painting in the series is a chapter in an epic narrative, and together, more than 50 pieces create a pothi, used by artists to vividly recount the Ramayana. The colors are both vibrant and symbolic, employing a rich palette to evoke emotions, while intricate patterns and motifs unravel the timeless saga. Gangavane's Chitrakathi painting breathes life into ancient traditions, preserving the beauty of oral storytelling through art.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.

Chitrakathi is a traditional Indian art form from Maharashtra, particularly Paithan and Pinguli, that uniquely blends storytelling with painting. This ancient art involves Chitrakars using vividly painted scrolls or paper sheets as visual aids to narrate stories from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as local folklore. Characterized by bold lines, bright colors, and expressive figures, the paintings are traditionally made on paper or cloth using natural dyes and pigments, with artists employing bamboo pens and natural fiber brushes. Dating back to the 17th century, Chitrakathi served as a vital medium for entertainment and education, preserving mythological and cultural heritage, and fostering community bonding through its interactive performances.
