This carefully composed Cheriyal Scroll painting by Dhanalakota Rakesh presents a moment of agricultural harvest work transformed into sacred ritual, depicting two women engaged in the winnowing and conversation, rendered beneath the shelter of a sacred tree and framed by domestic architecture, capturing themes of sustenance, collaborative labor, and the blessing of earth's abundance.

Cheriyal Scroll Painting is a vibrant and endangered folk art tradition from Telangana. Historically crafted on vertical Khadi cloth scrolls (up to 45 feet long), these stylized, comic-strip-like panels use bright primary colors and bold outlines to visually narrate Indian epics and local village folklore. 

The composition is organized beneath a large, stylized tree with dark brown trunk and densely packed green foliage rendered with repetitive leaf patterns, dominating the upper left portion of the composition. This tree suggests eternal protection, witness, and the natural abundance from which human sustenance derives.

Two female figures are positioned in the central-lower portion of the composition, engaged in the process of grain winnowing. The left figure is rendered with cream-colored skin tones, wearing a white patterned saree with a blue blouse and elaborate jewelry rendered in golden tones, seated in an attentive posture as she continues to winnow the grains. The right figure is rendered with reddish-orange skin tones, wearing a blue saree with a white blouse, similarly adorned with golden jewelry and ornamental hair ornaments on her simple bun, appearing to be sharing stories with the other woman.

Between the figures is a basket of grain. The ground beneath the figures is rendered in brilliant golden-yellow with a distinctive quilted or scale-pattern texture, creating visual richness and suggesting both domestic prosperity and the ordered structure of carefully maintained space.
To the right of the composition stands a white cottage or domestic dwelling, rendered with white walls, a peaked roof in rust-brown tones with layered shingle or scale patterning, and a golden-yellow door, establishing the domestic spatial context and suggesting that this agricultural work occurs as part of the woman's essential role in maintaining the household.

The background field is predominantly golden-yellow with red and white floral motifs scattered throughout, creating a warm, prosperous atmosphere. The ornamental border features the characteristic yellow scroll pattern with red flower motifs, providing formal framing.

This painting captures the principle that Cheriyal tradition recognizes harvest and grain processing, as worthy of formal artistic rendering and symbolic weight. The tree above suggests nature's provision; the basket suggests the tools and results of human labor; the cottage establishes the domestic context. Together, these elements suggest that women's agricultural labor participates in the cosmic cycle of sustenance and that the processing of grain is not merely utilitarian but spiritually significant work.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.
