This exuberant painting, crafted by the talented artist Shehzaad Ali Sherani, features a stunning representation of seven horses that dominate the canvas.
The painting is rendered in the traditional pichwai style, a celebrated form of artwork originating from Rajasthan, with its roots deeply entrenched in the Nathdwara region. The term ‘pichwai’ refers to intricate paintings executed on cloth, which are traditionally hung on the back walls of temples. These beautifully detailed textiles serve a sacred purpose, created to adorn and worship Lord Shrinathji, a child incarnation of Lord Krishna depicted as a child. This particular representation highlights Shrinathji's miraculous act of lifting Mount Govardhana with his little finger, a moment that symbolises divine protection and care for his devotees.
The seven horses represented here are rendered with full movement and zest, symbolising growth and fortune according to Vastu Shastra. They also represent the iconic attribute of Lord Surya, embodying speed and wisdom. In the background, a small shrine is depicted with three domes and three arched frames supported by a balustrade, showcasing the Rajput-Mughal amalgamation of architecture. Birds hover in the sky, accompanied by the sun, delineating daytime and symbolising wisdom, life, light and renewal. The sun is shining yellow, which indicates the aniconic form of Lord Surya.
The painting is divided into three levels. The upper level features a sky filled with the sun, birds, and colours of orange, red and yellow, creating a beautiful morning scene. This colour representation is closely related to the Kishangarh style of Rajasthani miniature painting, with swirling clouds that create a sense of movement alongside stillness. The mid-ground level comprises trees and shrubs, lush vegetation, the architecture and the horses, while the foreground is filled with a pond adorned with blooming lotuses, representing the Yamuna river. This entire representation reflects a wholesome balance of the artist's imagination on the canvas. Continuous lines and balance are core compositional elements used by the artist, complemented by a vivid colour palette.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
