About the Artwork +
This exquisite Pichwai painting by artist Shehzaad Ali Sherani is a vibrant visual tapestry that interweaves three central themes from the life of Lord Krishna. Originating from Nathdwara near Udaipur, Rajasthan, this sacred art form emerged as an offering and backdrop for Shrinathji, a child form of Krishna, and continues to be celebrated for its devotional intricacy and narrative richness.
At the heart of the composition is the theme of Sharad Poornima, a full-moon festival celebrating divine love and cosmic joy. In this central panel, Shrinathji is depicted with his characteristic dark complexion, gentle expression and soulful eyes. He stands with one hand raised and the other gracefully poised at his side, adorned in flowing orange and red robes, layered with elaborate pearl and gold jewelry, a lotus garland and his iconic peacock feather crown. Surrounding him are gopis in swirling motion, engaged in the Raas Leela, a divine dance of love, under a serene blue starry night sky, also witnesed by the moon.
This painting brilliantly captures the Govardhan Puja, depicting Krishna lifting Mount Govardhan to shield Vrindavan from Indra's storm. Villagers and animals are shown reverently offering Annakut. Celestial beings like Brahma and Shiva witness this divine protection. The Gopashtami festival is also featured, with Krishna lovingly tending to pristine white cows, symbolizing purity. An intricately illustrated border recounts Krishna's life, from his birth and playful mischief to his romance with Radha.
Subtle architectural elements, traditional clothing, and jewelry enhance its authenticity. Shehzaad Ali Sherani's masterful brushwork, vibrant colors, and gold detailing infuse the artwork with joy, divinity, and positive energy, creating a timeless spiritual experience.
Pure Gold is used in this painting.
