About the Artwork +

This majestic stone dust painting by artist Amita Sachdeva depicts Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, patron of arts, and the deity of new beginnings. Handcrafted using natural crushed stone pigments, this painting is a testament to the timeless legacy of Indian craftsmanship and design, merging this unique art form with age old iconography.

At the center of the composition sits Lord Ganesha, portrayed in traditional iconography with his elephant head, rounded belly, and four arms, holding a lotus, a plate of modaks, a broken tusk, his bottom right hand raised in the abhaya mudra, the gesture of blessing and protection. His golden halo and bejewelled crown reflect his radiant aura, while his orange and green garments add color to his personality, one foot set against the ground.

Set against a deep maroon backdrop, intricate floral motifs are meticulously painted in hues of ochre, ivory, and gold. Elephants, parrots and other motifs are depicted around the deity. The central figure is enclosed in a magnificent border of mythological panels, representing gods, goddesses, sages, and other celestial beings, narrating stories from the Hindu pantheon. This Ganesha painting is not only spiritual in nature, but also a symbol of abundance, intellect, and auspicious beginnings, the presence of Ganesha bringing clarity, protection, and joy to the viewers.
