About the Artwork +

Behold this magnificent and intricate Pichwai painting, a true heritage heirloom. This antique Pichwai, dating back approximately forty to fifty years, is a testament to generations of artistic mastery. It was meticulously handcrafted by the master artist Sharad Soni, who trained under the watchful tutelage of his father, Badri Lal Chitrakar.

This work offers a profoundly rare and grand visualisation within the Pichwai tradition: Lord Krishna in his Virat Swaroop, or Cosmic Form. Dedicated to Shrinathji, the painting reimagines him as the Cosmic Lord, embodying the vast, infinite expanse of creation itself.

At the centre stands an imposing, dark-complexioned deity with seven heads and ten arms, a highly symbolic and imaginative portrayal that reflects the artist’s creative expansion of classical iconography. His forehead bears the sacred tilak, and a diamond glows upon his chin, signifying divine brilliance. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna reveals this Virat Swaroop to Arjuna, a vision encompassing the entire universe within his being. Similarly, in this painting, the deity’s body becomes a cosmic map: his golden crown bears depictions of Lord Brahma seated on a lotus and with deities and other celestial beings, while his torso contains the Raas Leela, where Krishna dances with all the Gopis, symbolising divine love that pervades creation.

Each of his ten hands holds sacred emblems such as lotus flowers, a conch, and offerings, signifying purity, cosmic sound, and devotion. Surrounding him, the composition unfolds as a layered universe, with the top section depicting Shrinathji and the Raas Leela, evoking transcendental joy, while the foreground portrays scenes from the Mahabharata war, echoing the moment when Lord Krishna revealed his Virat Swaroop to Arjuna.

Around and above him appear celestial beings, Airavata the divine elephant, and the mount of Lord Indra,  Lord Brahma, and other divine figures, reinforcing the theme of universal order. The landscape is filled with sacred cows, flora, and fauna typical of Pichwai art, harmoniously blending earthly and divine realms. The painting’s rich red background and moonlit sky create a spiritual atmosphere, while scenes of village life, cows, and deities like Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati under a tree ground the cosmic vision within human devotion.

This authentic Pichwai was created using time-honoured techniques and traditional pigments, ensuring its remarkable longevity. This incredible piece will last for generations without fading, perfectly preserving its intricate detail and vibrant color.

Collectively, this Pichwai transforms into a visual scripture, powerfully portraying the entire cosmos within the divine body of Lord Krishna—the eternal source of creation and consciousness.

Perfect for any wall, this divine Pichwai will add an antique charm to your space, uplifting the aura and leaving a meaningful taste of spiritualism and Lord Krishna's blessings.
