This is a divine depiction of Radha Krishna in Kangra Art by artist Suresh Kumar Kumawat , symbolising the ultimate union between the human and divine. Rooted in the Bhakti movement and texts like the Gita Govinda, their romance represents selfless devotion, the pain of separation, and the joyful transcendence found in spiritual surrender.

Kangra art is a renowned Indian miniature painting style that originated in Himachal Pradesh in the mid-18th century. Famous for its delicate brushwork, pastel color palette, and lyrical romanticism, it prominently depicts the divine love story of Radha and Krishna and local landscapes. Emerging after the decline of the Basohli school, the style took root in Haripur-Guler when local Rajput rulers gave asylum to refugee artists trained in the Mughal style. This art form flourished under the patronage of Raja Sansar Chand, who made Kangra the most powerful hill state.

Central to the image are Radha and Krishna, lost in each other. Krishna is dressed in yellow garments (pitambara, with gemmed gold jewellery, a flower garland, and an ornate gold crown with gemstones, and haloed by a yellow bhamandal. Radha, dressed in a red and gold ghagra with a green blouse and a golden veil, is adorned with gold gemstone jewellery.

Both Radha and Krishna are depicted in the Chaturbhuj (four-armed) rendition to shift the narrative from earthly romance to cosmic divinity about the absolute equality of the divine masculine and feminine. The four-armed form visually asserts that Krishna is not just a mortal prince or cowherd, but the Supreme Divinity and a direct avatar of Lord Vishnu. His hands hold the conch (shankha), representing the primordial sound of creation and spiritual victory; the discus (Sudarshana chakra), symbolising protection, the eternal wheel of time and the destruction of cosmic evil; the mace (gada), siignifying absolute mental, physical and sovereign strength and the lotus (padma), symbolising spiritual liberation, purity and supreme beauty blooming amidst worldly chaos. A four-armed depiction of Radha elevates her to Mula-Prakriti (the primordial nature) or Adi Shakti (the supreme feminine energy) and acknowledges her as an incarnation of Lakshmi.

The divine couple is depicted as sitting on a lotus asana (padma-asana) under a pavilion on the red carpeted terrace, with lotus bud patterns with vines. Above them is a golden chhatra or parasol which is richly decorated with gemstones. They are both seated on a gold asana with blue upholstery, with a black bolster with red flower patterns with green vines, similar to the ceiling of the pavilion, with a gold jal dani on one side and silver paan beeda and attar dibis on the other side. The backdrop of mango trees with both fruit and flowers against the clear lue sky represents the Nidhivan. The entrance to the pavilion is through a marble scalloped arch modified with Persian floret patterns, supported by a marble fluted tapering column, and low marble railings, adding a pattern to the parapet walls as the columns stand on a marble protruding pedestal geometrically detailed in white on the background of blue. The thick red border binds this composition together, making it a brilliant visual depiction of cosmic love.

Framing Services

No, we currently sell artworks unframed (unless explicitly mentioned otherwise) and do not provide framing services.

We ship worldwide. All artworks are handmade and couriered securely in transit safe packaging sutaible for the artwork.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Additonal Shipping Charges

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.

Returns and Replacements

We offer replacements or repairs if your artwork arrives damaged or has a quality issue. As each artwork is handcrafted, we do not accept returns or refunds for orders received in the expected condition.

Delivery Timeline

This artwork will be Made to Order and will take 3 weeks to be made and shipped.

Once your order is placed, our team stays in constant communication with the artist to track the progress and ensure the quality of your order. You will receive regular updates from us throughout this process.
