This exquisite painting of Goddess Lakshmi is created in the traditional Mysore art style by the master artist Hemalatha B, depicting the Goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity seated serenely in the padmasana (lotus posture) upon a large, blooming lotus, symbolising purity and transcendence.
Adhering to the conventions of iconography, the Goddess is richly adorned with a prominent crown and fine jewellery and is depicted with four hands, holding large pink lotus flowers in her upper hands while her lower right hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra (gesture of assurance) and her left hand in the Varada mudra (gesture of blessing). The artist employs delicate shading and fine lines, characteristic of the style of Mysore Painting, to lend a gentle three-dimensional quality to the figure, and the vibrant colours of her sari and the golden architectural arch framing her contrast beautifully to create an image of divine grace and quiet majesty.
