This narrative Pichwai painting by artist Dinesh Soni, presents a composite depiction of Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling divine cow of Hindu tradition. Originating from the 400-year-old Nathdwara style of Rajasthan, which developed primarily to depict Lord Shrinathji, this painting illustrates the divine mother who fulfills the aspirations of her devotees.
The figure merges human and animal iconography, featuring the face of a female deity with almond-shaped eyes, an elongated nose adorned with a pearl nose ring (nath) and stylized features. She wears a tall gold conical crown, maang tikka, layered necklaces, ear ornaments, and a long braid finished with tassels, alongside retained cow horns. Her white bovine body is fitted with an embroidered saddle and layered wings painted in blue, orange, maroon, and purple patterns, symbolizing ambition and divine power. Her tail flares out into an arch of peacock feathers, representing spiritual grace and abundance. Positioned directly beneath her is a small white calf reaching upward toward her udder, illustrating maternal care.
Beyond her physical form, Kamadhenu holds immense mythological significance as the primordial mother of all cattle, emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan); her composite anatomy, incorporating divine wings, a peacock tail, and celestial attributes,embodies cosmic abundance, fertility, selflessness, and the ultimate fulfillment of spiritual and material desires. The central figure is set against a deep crimson-red ground and enclosed within a golden rectangular inner border and outer frame.
Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide a digital authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist which will be sent over email after 3-4 days of delivery of the artwork.
