This is a beautifully handcrafted decorative clay glass-shaped vessel inspired by ancient pottery traditions and archaeological forms in in Khavda Pottery by Abdul Kumbhar.
Khavda pottery is an ancient, centuries-old craft from the Kutch district of Gujarat, India. Traditionally practiced in Khavda and neighboring Gundiyali villages, it relies on a specific local mud called "Rann ki Mitti" and is intricately hand-painted using entirely natural pigments, reflecting styles that date back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Before painting, the pots are coated with Geru, a red soil that gives the pieces their characteristic earthy, reddish-brown color. The decorative motifs are then applied using black (derived from ground black stone) and white (from local white clay).
This exquisite red on black ware vessel is patterned with linear motifs symbolic of the ancient agrarian practices of the region along with bird-like symbols, paying an ode to the antiquity of the artform and its association with the beginning of agricultural times in history.
Note: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Handle with care. Ready in approximately 2 days. Securely packed for safe transit. Available as a set and an individual piece.
