About the Artwork +

Jayesh Sharma portrays the divine beauty of Shrinathji, the cherished deity of devotion and grace, in a captivating black-and-white composition set against a border filled with sacred cow motifs. At the heart of this Pichwai, Shrinathji stands with his signature blue complexion, a symbol of his divine nature. In this painting, Shrinathji's resplendent attire and ornaments are adorned with the timeless Ganga Jamuna palette, showcasing the interplay of antique gold and silver hues that shimmer with a patina of age, as if echoing the passage of time. Shrinathji is adorned with a simple yet elegant garland that graces his neck. Its white flowers stand out starkly against the black and white canvas, symbolising purity and devotion. The border that encircles Shrinathji is a testament to the sacredness of cows in Hinduism. Elaborate cow motifs, meticulously detailed, fill the border with grace. The composition is a testament to the enduring beauty of Pichwai art, where every detail, from Shrinathji's attire to the antique Ganga Jamuna palette, speaks to the timeless connection between the devotee and the divine

His grandfather's Gangaramji Sharma's art was on exhibit at Mumbai's Bhuleshwar temple. His paintings can be seen in the Shrinathji temple in Nathdwara and Udaipur, the Badrinath temple in Manasa, Madhya Pradesh, the Dakor temple in Gujarat, and the Bada Mandir Haveli in Mumbai. Indra Daman Goswami ji has awarded him a Prasashti Patra for his services to the Lord's Wall at Nathdwara. He clearly embodies the adage, "Allow your passion to become your mission, and it will one day become your vocation."

Pichwai Art

The art of Pichwai originated over 400 years ago, illustrating tales of Shrinathji, an incarnation of Krishna, the deity manifest as a seven-year-old child. Prominent in th Nathadwara region of Rajasthan especially in the Vaishnavite sect, the paintings are hand-painted on cloth or paper and depict different scenes and stills - lotuses, Radha, Gopis and cows are also frequent subjects. What started as a religious practice, is an art today and finds place in the form of paintings and wall hangings in homes of many art connoisseurs.
