About the Artwork +

Jayesh Sharma portrays the divine essence of Shrinathji, the beloved deity of devotion and grace, against a backdrop of resplendent golden motifs. At the centre of this enchanting composition stands Shrinathji, his divine form adorned in resplendent attire and adorned with golden ornaments. His complexion, a soothing shade of dark blue, radiates a celestial glow. Shrinathji's attire is a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the divine. He is dressed in magnificent robes that shimmer with golden threads, adorned with intricate patterns that reflect the richness of his presence. His jewellery, studded with precious gems, glitters in the soft, divine light. Around Shrinathji's neck, a garland of lotus blooms gracefully drapes, symbolising purity, enlightenment, and devotion. Each lotus petal is meticulously rendered, their soft pink hues contrasting elegantly against the golden backdrop. The golden, embellished altar that surrounds Shrinathji is a work of artistry and devotion. It is adorned with motifs of elephants, symbolising strength and wisdom; peacocks, embodying grace and beauty; and parrots, representing eloquence and devotion. This Pichwai painting is a visual wonder where every element, from Shrinathji's resplendent attire to the golden embellishments of the altar, speaks to the profound connection between the devotee and the divine, a testament to the timeless artistry and devotion of the Pichwai tradition.

Pichwai Art

The art of Pichwai originated over 400 years ago, illustrating tales of Shrinathji, an incarnation of Krishna, the deity manifest as a seven-year-old child. Prominent in th Nathadwara region of Rajasthan especially in the Vaishnavite sect, the paintings are hand-painted on cloth or paper and depict different scenes and stills - lotuses, Radha, Gopis and cows are also frequent subjects. What started as a religious practice, is an art today and finds place in the form of paintings and wall hangings in homes of many art connoisseurs.
