This magnificent painting from Sushil Soni’s collection is a radiant ode to Shrinathji as the divine cow herd, celebrating Gopashtami, a cherished festival in Hindu tradition that commemorates Lord Krishna’s initiation into cow herding, symbolising his ascent into a protector of both cattle and community.
At the heart of the composition stands the resplendent figure of Shrinathji, an incarnation of Lord Krishna, adorned in rich, intricately detailed garments and opulent jewelry, radiating divine serenity and grace. Encircling him is a tender congregation of sacred cows, lovingly depicted in pure white with delicate red tilaks and decorative embellishments, forming a protective halo around their beloved guardian. The artwork masterfully captures the intimate bond between Lord Krishna and his cows, a central motif in Pushtimarg art, where each animal is rendered with individual character and charm.
